Motorola Atrix 4G (Update)

The Motorola Atrix, which debuted at this years Consumer Electronics Show, is an Android-based smartphone that really is a computer in your pocket. I won’t go into much detail here, as I have already done so in a recent post, which you can find here. However, I have learned some new information regarding this phone. It is rumored to be launching some time next month (February) on AT&T for $150. Compared to its peers, that is a very reasonable price point. Motorola has also recently released this promo video, which does a great job of demonstrating the various ways in which the Atrix can be utilized. Check it out below:

Movie Review: The Green Hornet 3D

Seeing The Green Hornet in 3D was a surprisingly great movie going experience. Don’t get me wrong, the 3D effects in this movie are still no where near that of Avatar, but they were more noticeable and unique than in most other 3D movies. On top of that, the film itself told a great story, had a lot of great action, and also had Seth Rogen’s comedic touch.

The 3D effects in The Green Hornet were not amazing, but were utilized in fun and unique ways. One scene comes to mind, in which missiles are being launched out the Green Hornet’s Black Wasp car, and seemingly straight at the audience. That’s just one of many interesting 3D effects used throughout this movie. The Green Hornet does not, however, rely on these effects since it can stand on its own as a fun action film. It tells the story of how Brett Reid (Seth Rogen), as his alter ego The Green Hornet,  and his partner Kato (Jay Chou) team up to help the citizens of Los Angeles by ridding it of evil doers, such as crime boss Chudnofsky (Christoff Waltz). Along the way they get in fights with all manner of thugs and hitmen, and even have an epic battle amongst themselves. All these fight scenes are incredibly well done and fun to watch. My favorite was when The Green Hornet and Kato were being chased throughout Los Angeles by Chudnofsky and his gang, and they used all the weaponry Kato had installed in the Black Wasp.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed seeing this movie in 3D, and would recommend others experience it this way as well. Before you do, check out its trailer below:

Motorola Atrix 4G

At this years Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NV, all the major tech companies were showing off their latest tablets, smartphones, 3D devices, or all three. My favorite thing that came out of CES was the Motorola Atrix 4G (above). Not only is a great Android smartphone, it also has the ability to be docked to a PC, laptop, or home theater system. Typically, when a smartphone is docked to a PC, it is either syncing media or charging it’s battery via USB. The Motorola Atrix, however, will be the PC / laptop / home theater system when docked. When docked to a PC, the user will be presented with the desktop version Android OS on their monitor, and will interact using their keyboard and mouse. Additionally, the user will see an on-screen representation of everything on their phone, including all home screens, apps, and widgets. The laptop dock is similar to the PC dock, but it also retains the accelerometer functionality. This would make playing accelerometer-based games on a larger screen possible. Lastly, when docked to a home theater system, a media center like interface is shown on-screen and can be used with its included remote similar to any other set-top box. I’m looking forward to this docking functionality making its way to other Android smartphones eventually, especially those on Verizon.

I Was Home Again: The Rest of my East Coast Vacation

While the past couple days in Winchester, MA were pretty fun, things were about to get a lot better. I spent Day 3 chilling (literally) with my friend Ron, Day 4 with my group of friends from elementary school, Day 5 travelling to New York, and Days 6-8 visiting the sites of New York City and seeing shows on Broadway.

On Day 3, Ron and I went to see True Grit, which we both agreed was a great film that is worth the price of admission. It was after the movie when our day got a bit more interesting. We walked out of the theater and into a huge snow storm, which was a bit of an annoyance for Ron, especially since he was driving. For me, however, I was loving being in this winter wonderland, and couldn’t get enough of it. Feeling the crunch of the snow beneath my boots as I walked through it is something I’ll never forget.

On Day 4, I called up my group of friends (Robert, Matt, and Mark), and they were all snowed in due to the previous nights storm. Fortunately, road conditions cleared up by late afternoon, so that’s when we were finally able to meet up. When we did, it was epic, because I hadn’t seen these guys since March of 2004. I had a great time catching up with all of them, and I’m glad that they are all doing really well now.

On Day 5, most of my day was spent on the bus to New York. Once there, I got checked into my hotel room and immediately started exploring the city. Around the corner from my hotel was Broadway, so I decided to check out Green Day’s American Idiot musical, which was a fantastic show.

On Day 6, I visited the Natural History Museum and attended the much talked about Spider-man: Turn off the Dark musical. The museum was very fun, educational, and I really enjoyed checking out all of the exhibits. The Spider-man musical was my favorite part of the day. I really enjoyed the music, and the on-stage and in-air action was simply amazing to see. I would definitely recommend checking out this play, whether or not you’re a fan of the wall crawler.

On Day 7, the most exciting thing I did was see the Rock of Ages musical, which was just amazing. I really liked how they integrated 80’s era rock music into the story. It is a show that is well deserving of all its accolades.

Day 8 was New Years Eve, the last day of 2010, and I spent most of the day walking around in the snow in Central Park. I also went on a tour of 30 Rockefeller Center, a.k.a the NBC building. Later that night, I tried, however unsuccessfully, to get back to Times Square. Unfortunately, the police had blocked it off due to it being at capacity. I was told that there were more than a million people there. I was, however, able to see a sliver of the ball drop during the last seconds of 2010.

Looking back, going home to Massachusetts, and to New York for the first time, were adventures and experiences I will never forget.
